Coffee Associated With Lower Risk of Arrhythmias

Good news for coffee drinkers--new observational data presented last week at EPI|PNAM 2010, the Cardiovascular Disease Epidemiology and Prevention and Nutrition, Physical Activity, and Metabolism 2010 Conference, suggests that multiple cups of Joe are associated with a lower risk of arrhythmias. Ticagrelor Improves Platelet Inhibition in Both Clopidogrel Responders and Nonresponders

The first study to demonstrate that ticagrelor (AstraZeneca) therapy overcomes nonresponsiveness to clopidogrel (Plavix, Bristol-Myers Squibb/Sanofi-Aventis) treatment has been reported [1]. In the RESPOND
trial, platelet inhibition in both clopidogrel responders and
nonresponders was significantly enhanced by switching to ticagrelor
therapy.

"The extremely low prevalence of high platelet reactivity in patients treated with ticagrelor provides a mechanism for the clinical

Cardiovascular Outcomes and Mortality in Patients Using Clopidogrel With Proton Pump Inhibitors After Percutaneous Coronary Intervention or Acute Coronary Syndrome

Background— Recent studies have raised concerns about the reduced efficacy of clopidogrel when used concurrently with proton pump inhibitors (PPIs), but those studies may have overestimated the risk.

Methods and Results— We studied the potential for increased risk of adverse cardiovascular events among users of clopidogrel with versus without concurrent use of PPIs in 3 large cohorts of patients
